My name is Brenda, I am a transgender woman living in the Bay Area for the last 25 years. I am originally from Perú and I decided to leave my loved country and family to be able to live my life and be finally myself. I come to the USA when I was 25 years ago, I just turn 50 y/o and its being quite a journey, but a journey that I will never change because this country that I am very thankful for, gave me the opportunity to be Brenda, a very proud and confident Latina transgender woman from Peru who wants to make a difference in my community.
It’s very important to me to empower younger generations in my community who maybe are struggling or having hard time trying to be themselves. If my life experience can help other to have the strength to have an easier road than mine, it will my journey much more worthy.
I always think that the only way to make a change is been visible and completely out about being yourself. If we want to be taken in consideration and be heard, then we need to make sure the world see us, there is no other way. Showing our pride for who I am is the most empowering action.
Personally I do my part with my family, my friends, at my workplace, where I had the opportunity to participate in some projects for pride month last year. I love my community and I want to give back in a way that they feel stronger, empowered and very confident
