My name is Noah . Growing up I’ve always felt out of place but I could never figure out why. But as I got older and started to figure myself out through high school I realized the discomfort I felt with my body was that it didn’t align with my soul. I didn’t feel like my true self.
I am a male who was born female. It took a lot for me to realize that as I had grown up in such a conservative family. This gift will help me be more at ease with myself while I go through my transition. It also helps to know that there is a community like this helping others who are trans but are not able to express their true self due to their family not being supportive.
For me, being in the military is hard enough, but to also be transgender just makes it that much more difficult. It’s hard going through this transition as I have lost people along the way, but I know that there are many other people in the world who are going through the same thing as me. Knowing that really helps and I really appreciate that this community exists."

Youth Giveaway Recipient
My name is Matthew C. and I identify as male. I was born as a female and have always felt like there was something wrong or that I didn’t fit. Being raised in a pretty closed off household besides knowing about gay and lesbian people, I didn’t know why I was so unhappy with myself. I always thought it was because I didn’t look like the other girls. I distinctly remember being 8 years old and already hating my body. It wasn’t until 8th grade that I found out that being transgender was an actual thing that was okay.
When I entered high school, all through freshman year I struggled with my sexuality and gender. I began experimenting with chest binding and found that it helped me feel more comfortable. On July 9th 2016, I got my first hair cut and immediately felt like I was I was seeing the real me in the mirror. I publicly came out in the summer before 10th grade.
I am now a junior in high school and the president of an amazing GSA club where I have made many friends and received so much support from. After reading about organizations like Across Gender, and after being a leader for LGBT+ kids, I realize that I really would like to help the community and make an impact. Across Gender has given me so much inspiration to build up not only myself but also the community.
Projects like this are extremely amazing and inspiring, and honestly, it’s such an honor to be a recipient. It will help out, not only me, but also my mother who has some trouble providing for my transition. Thank you all so much for helping the community so much and for being such an inspiration.

" I just wanted to say thank you so much for the Youth of Color discussion group! It’s helped me a lot and it’s given me hope for my future. I find it very comforting to be given advice from these trans adults and I love to listen their own experiences which makes me look forward to my own. These adults have made me realize that I can love myself and be proud of being a person of color while also being trans.
I’ve always looked forward to all the times that I’ve gone to this discussion group and I’ve had fun speaking to William and Dunai which are very sweet people. I really appreciate this group and I just wanted you to know that. It really does help and it gives me something to look forward to throughout the week. Alright, thank you!"
