The Lighthouse Project
Shining our light on those in need
What is this project about?
Lighthouses help to navigate through rough waters and offer guidance and safety. We aspire to do the same with our Lighthouse Project. This project caters to those who are financially struggling. We strive to help by providing access to basic necessities: food, toiletries, and clothing.
Why this project?
Because transgender people experience high rates of discrimination, it is no surprise that 29% of our community are living in poverty compared to 14% of the general U.S. population. That notwithstanding, we also face the expenses of transitional healthcare and surgeries as well as legal fees that can have a significant financial impact. This is a way we hope we can help.
how does this project work?
It's simple. If you are in need of basic necessities, we will have a limited supply available at every meet-up and event upon request. We also offer one personal delivery bimonthy for care packages on a first come first serve basis. At no cost to you. Because of our limited people power, we currently only serve those in the Bay Area. For personally delivered care packages, apply here.
What's included in our care packages?
The care packages we offer for delivery have options for basic food, a fast food gift card, and/or toiletries. The basic food we offer consist of non-perishable items. Our toiletries are basic general hygiene essentials. To find out more about specifics, read more here. We offer fast food gift cards because they're accepted in most areas like McDonalds and Burger King.
